About Open Construction Simulator

Open Construction Simulator (OCS) is a community-driven, open-source construction simulator built on Unity. It models excavation, earth transportation and heavy-equipment operation in a shared simulation environment.

The demo repository includes an excavator scene and deformable terrain work, with support for ROS-style sensors and control interfaces. It is Apache 2.0 licensed and welcomes contributors, which makes it a rare open-source alternative to commercial construction sims.

Because the full version is distributed as a binary release, the live web version here is the demo. The project is still one of the most-starred open-source excavator and construction simulators on GitHub.

Frequently asked questions

Is Open Construction Simulator completely free?
Yes. The demo source is open-source under Apache 2.0 and the binary release is free to download.
Can I modify the excavator physics?
Yes. The Unity project is open, so you can change machine models, terrain behaviour and control logic.
